How is rice grown? And vegetables? How do you run a farm? Is it tiring? These, and many more, are the questions that might be raised by children (and not only children) about life on a farm. In this way a farm may become a place for active education, which supports the one received at school, where learning,observation and the discovery of a world which appears so distant from everyday experience enable us to become familiar with agricultural activity in all its aspects, economical, cultural and environmental. Cooperativa Agricola Santa Marta is a typical Lombard farmhouse, a "corte", one of the rural settlements that have always populated the area south of Milan. It offers the products of local agricolture and livestock breeding, along with new activities related to the discovery of the territory. Following eco- friendly farming methods, we grow rice, Carnaroli and Arborio, corn, pumpkins, tomatoes, zucchini, radishes, beans, apples, peaches, and all the typical products of our area. Cascina Santa Marta also offers guided tours: we will give you an unaffected welcome and we will take you for a wonderful "trip around rice". A short walk will show you the rice fields (the period is between April and September) and we will explain all phases of rice growing. Then we will walk through the vegetables beds in the open fields, the tunnel greenhouses and experimental greenhouses.
